summer in a bathing suit, body positivity, let go of body shame

How to enjoy your summer in a bathing suit | Body Positivity

It’s summertime. And you know what that means…

Summer family portraits, beach days, pool days, backyard hangouts—and yes, a whole lot of time in a bathing suit.

For a lot of moms, that can bring up a lot of feelings.

Because while summer is supposed to feel light and carefree, it can also feel like there’s a spotlight on your body 24/7. Like you’re constantly being seen, judged, or compared.

But what if this summer felt different?

What if you could fully be there—laughing with your kids, running into the waves, soaking up the sunshine—without that constant voice in your head picking you apart?

Can you picture yourself playing with your kiddos on the beach, fully present, not worrying about how your stomach looks when you sit or how your arms look in photos?

That’s what I want for you this summer. And not just for your day-to-day life—but for your summer family portraits too.

You deserve to be in the memories, not hiding from them.

So here are two gentle shifts to help you let go of some of that body shame this season:

1. Get curious about where the shame is coming from.
Pause for a second and really think about it. Is it unrealistic beauty standards you’ve seen your whole life? A comment someone made years ago that just… stuck? A fear of what other people might think?

Instead of pushing those feelings down or avoiding situations (like photos or swimsuits), try getting curious. When you understand where those thoughts come from, they start to lose their power over you.

2. Practice kindness—toward yourself and others.
This one is simple, but powerful. The way we talk about other people often mirrors how we talk to ourselves.

So when you catch yourself judging someone else (or yourself), pause. Flip the script. Offer a compliment instead—even if it’s about the very thing you struggle with.

Little by little, this rewires how you see beauty… including your own.

Here’s the truth: your kids don’t see your “flaws.” They see you. Their safe place. Their joy.

And years from now, when they look back at your summer family portraits, they won’t be thinking about your body.

They’ll remember how it felt to be loved by you.
