Photographing candid moments.
There’s something so special about photographing candid moments—those in-between smiles, playful gestures, and unplanned interactions that tell the real story of a family. I recently had the pleasure of photographing Chelcie and her adorable three-year-old son, Liam in Wrightsville Beach. This was actually my second time photographing this sweet duo; the first time, Liam was just one year old. It’s amazing how much he’s grown, and he’s still just as full of energy and curiosity!
Chelcie brought along her mom and sister, making it a true family affair. We let Liam lead the way, and boy, did he!
Whether he was running through the sand, giggling as his aunt tickled him, or snuggling up to his mom, every moment felt genuine and joyful. That’s the magic of candid photography—there’s no pressure to pose or “get it right.” Instead, it’s about being present, letting kids be kids, and letting families simply enjoy their time together.
It was a treat to see the dynamic between these four. Chelcie’s mom and sister brought such a loving, playful energy to the session, and you could tell that Liam felt so comfortable with his little entourage. Those are the kinds of moments that can’t be staged, and they’re the ones that bring a smile to your face when you look back at the photos.
For me, these candid moments are what make family photography so meaningful. It’s about capturing not just how you look, but how you feel when you’re with the people you love most. And when you get to witness those little glimpses of pure connection, it’s truly something special.
Of course, I made sure to snap a few portrait type, or what I can “Christmas Card photos”.
