Tricia’s Mommy and Me Session

A Mommy and Me Session and Body Positivity Encouragement

Tricia is a part of my Mommy Photography Program. Her and her son, Weston came to one of my favorite events in the program, the Mommy and Me session. This event is designed for moms. It’s to encourage women to see their photos through a new light. Women are often so critical of how they look, especially in images. So I encourage all my mamas to look past the double chins, tummy rolls or thick thighs they think they have and see the images for what they are… the beauty of motherhood.

During the mommy and me session I encourage playing, laughing, tickling and kisses. Things that we tend to hate about our bodies seem to come out in portraits during these moments of play. When we are adoring looking down at our children a double chin may appear. Or when we are holding or hugging our child our arms may look thicker then we would like them to. During this session I encourage women not to worry about what they may look like in photos but just to have fun and enjoy the moment with their child.

Tricia and Weston

Tricia and Weston arrived at New Hanover Arboretum on a very warm morning in May. We had scheduled Mommy and Me session for the last weekend in April but it was rained out. Mom and dad prepped him for the session and encouraged Weston by using a toy camera. When they arrived, Weston was carrying the camera and I had Weston take a few pictures of me with his camera. After that he was ready to go.

We started in the rose garden. Tricia and Weston looked at the flowers, ran around the rose garden, snuggled and walked back and forth a few times. We moved on to the pond after that and Weston was just as energetic. He looked for fish, snuggled mom, ran back and forth between mom and dad and almost knocked mom into the pond once when he ran to hug her. We finished the session on a little wooden bridge that lead to a stone path and Tricia and Weston were as snuggly as ever. <3
