Photographing your family is s a great way to capture all the special moments you spend together.
Before you know it, your little ones will be all grown up and making their way into their world. Family sessions are perfect for celebrating the togetherness of being a family whenever possible. However, these sessions can also be stressful as the kids may get cranky, bored, or refuse to join.
As a professional photographer, I know how to keep the sessions relaxed, fun and a place where you can make beautiful memories.
Recently, I had a dream family session with one of my clients Lauren and her family. I feel privileged that they have chosen me for their family session for the fifth time in a row to photograph their beautiful family. Lauren, Ian and their wonderful kids, Reagan and Paige, always make my job so easy. They have a fun and relaxed style that makes it easy for me to point and snap away. I have known Lauren for a long time as she is part of my mommy photography program that I have specifically designed for hard-working moms. It’s a year-long program that solely focuses on and encourages busy moms to be in their family portrait session with their little ones. My program is designed to help them have fun without worrying about their looks, styles, features, outfits etc.
We started on a wonderful note on the day of the session, striking a few posed family photos. The weather was sunny and warm, and what I love about the outdoors was the gorgeous flowers in the background that made for some of the stunning photos. During the session, Paige did struggle a bit, (she wasn’t her normal cherry and active self) but I gave her some space and time to settle down. While she was playing and having fun alone, we took some time capturing stunning moments for Lauren and Ian. I focused more on candid photos than posed ones, which gave me the most timeless moments with this lovely family.
I will let you in on a little secret… Your child does need to be smiling in every single photo. Wait, WHAAAAT? Yes, I said it. I get it, as a mom of two girls I want the smiling portraits too, but that’s what school photos are for. 😉 And I will get smiling photos of your children at your family session but some of my favorite photos, like EVER, are of kids who have a more serous expression (that includes portraits of my own children and other peoples children.)
These candid and relaxed poses helped Paige to loosen up and give her the opportunity have a moment so she could jump back in the family portraits and have fun. One of the images I was able to grab after page jumped back in to the family portraits was the one of her and Reagan twirling in the flowers and its one of my favorite images from the entire session. <3
