How to feel comfortable in front of the camera at your family portrait session
Does the thought of having a photo session make you feel nervous? Well, you are not alone! Many often feel shy in front of the camera, hiding in the background, or just having pictures of their kids taken. This is especially the case with moms. I can’t tell you how many times I hear how people get anxious over the fear of being in front of the lens. And I totally get it! It can be a bit of an overwhelming experience. But worry not! Today, I will share the top ways to help you feel comfortable and confident at your next family session.
-
Wear clothes you feel comfortable in
I always tell my clients to dress in whatever makes them feel comfortable and absolutely fabulous. If you are not comfortable in your outfit, it will totally show up in your photos. So, choose something that both fits well and is aligned with your style. I always tell mom to pick her outfit first. Women often worry about what everyone else is wearing and then chooses their outfit. However mom is the star of the show and should be feeling her best during her family portrait session. If you want to step out of your comfort zone when it comes to your attire, I would recommend experimenting ahead of your family session. This way, you are giving yourself plenty of time to be able to decide if the outfit is perfect for the session and, more importantly – for your personality.
-
Hire a photographer with whom you are comfortable
Do you know your relationship with the photographer is half of the entire experience of your family portrait session? It’s true, and sometimes it can count even more. Therefore, it is important to get to know your photographer before you decide to book with them for a family session. This is the key to being more comfortable during the session. If you and your photographer don’t vibe well, you are more likely to remember your session as uncomfortable and even boring. So to feel at ease and make the experience a success, work with a photographer with whom you are comfortable.
- Have fun
Kids feed off the energy from their parents. So if you are tense, anxious, or frustrated, your little ones can sense it. Make sure you are having fun and doing your best to be comfortable and play with them. This way, they will also do the same! It is the time you just focus on having a good time with your family and having fun. It should feel like you are having the best time with the people you love. With lots of laughs, giggles, noise, and jokes – everyone will smile naturally, and your family photos will turn out candid and amazing.
