The Scott-Joaquin Generational Family Session
As a Wilmington NC generational family photographer one of the biggest questions I get asked is “how many images do you take?” or “What kinds of images are included?” And truth be told, it really depends on the family. I do take a variety of poses and images of everyones family as well as large group ones as well but some factors that come into play are
- The size of the family.
- Must have photos for each family and more importantly… what does grandma want? 😉
- How many kids/cousins are there?
Some images I always seem to take during generational family sessions are: the whole family together, grandparents with their grandkids, grandparents with their kids, each individual family, just grandma and grandpa, and at the end I always as if anybody wants any extras. So it is up to what the family wants. Extended family sessions don’t always get a lot of candid photos and those intimate moments that I get during a single family session because there are so many people and not a lot of time to squeeze them in but I always try to make sure I am grabbing a few.
The day of the session
The Scott-Joaquin Family is the perfect example of a smaller generational family session. Bridget has two daughters and the cutest little grandson. So we were able to get a variety of portraits since Aiden is the only little one. He wasn’t quite feeling pictures that day. (This is my third time photographing him and he is usually so smiley. He was teething.) But we were still able to grab some really sweet and candid moments, especially for grandma. We walked around downtown one bright and early morning looking for great light and alleyways. Aiden was so quiet and unsure of me sticking yet another camera in his face but Grandma and his dad were able to make him smile a few times, even with that tooth coming in. <3
