Anderson Family Portraits

Oak Island Family Portraits

On the rainy and humid evening last month  I met the Anderson Family for their Oak Island family portraits. They vacation there every year. I met them at their beach house and we walked across the street to the beach. The sun was still  a bit high in the sky so we started in the dunes. It rained at Oak Island on and odd all day and I was so worried we weren’t going to be able to do their family session. Kim Kept me in the loop about what the weather looked like.  About 40 minutes before the session was supposed to start, the rain stopped and the sun came out. It was a bit hazy and humid on the beach but the temperature was a beautiful 78 degrees.

I always have a blast with this family of five. Dad was as silly as ever and always goofing around with his girls. He was making faces at them and being an all-around jokester. Being around this family for an hour, you could tell that mom adores her girls. She was doting on them, fixing necklaces and skirts that accidentally flipped up from the wind. She made sure her girls looked their best. Lauren is still as I remember her a little shy, but sweet as ever. Kaitlin has always more outgoing with me. She tells me about school and life and I feel like I am catching up with an old friend whenever we talk. And Mallory the youngest is so silly and bubbly. She makes my job easy as ever because she’s always smiling.

Through the nostalgia

I have been a part of the Anderson family portrait tradition for eight years now. As I grow older and “wiser”, 😉 I’ve come to the realization that these are the good ol’ days. The last eight years of photographing this beautiful family of three… They have seen their girls grow, start kindergarten, middle school, high school, they’ve seen their faces change and their relationships become more loving and caring.

The first 18 years of your child’s life is gone before you know it. In the stressful, day to day life, the driving to soccer practice and doctors appointments, the fixing three meals a day and all the in between, just be in the moment. Look at your child’s sleeping face, see the wonder in their eyes as they learn something new, tickle and laugh with them. Before you know it time will pass and your child will be all grown up. Family portraits helps keep your children little, through the nostalgia all the craziness of everyday family life disappears and all you remember is the good times.
